The new SWISSCI XPol LCP allows excellent crystal viewing for even the smallest of crystals, with uniform zero background when using cross polarised light. The SWISSCI XPol LCP was developed closely with the Protein Crystallisation Center of the University of Zurich. The center has many years of expertise in crystallizing membrane proteins. The XPol LCP kit has been specially formulated to improve performance versus standard LCP systems.
The Hydrophobic (silanized) Glass Base comes in ANSI/SLAS 1-2004-Standard (SBS) format allowing for easy automation and high throughput screening. The Double Sided Pressure Adhesive, available in 60μm and 120μm, comes readily stuck to the Glass Base with space for barcode application. The Double Sided Pressure Adhesive has 96 holes
that are 7mm in diameter and have a 2.3μ volume in the 60μm version and 4.6μl volume for 120μm. The large diameter almost eliminates the occurrence of precipitation solution being pulled to the side, which can often happen with smaller diameter holes.
The SWISSCI XPol LCP comes as standard with 175μm Cover Glass. For the addition of UV/Flu, UV Cover Films are also available upon request at 40μm, 100μm or 200μm thickness.

The revolutionary SWISSCI Hanging Drop Crystallisation Plate Seal (UVOP / Non-UVP) comes ready to use with a dust-free protective coating and specialty polymer base. The Seals accommodate up to 3 separate drops of protein and fit the standard 2-drop or 3-drop MRC plates. The product has a 100 or 40-micron thin layer of UVP specialty polymer developed for compact drop creation and ability to shoot X-ray without any noticeable diffraction. The non-UVP seal comes in 100-micron layer.
The SWISSCI hanging drop seals can be run with individual drops in the 96 positions or 192 drop – or 288 drops.
The volume of the drop is typically between 50 and 100 nanolitres. The seal covers sit directly over the microwell plate crystallization reagent wells and are closed with a long term resistant closing adhesive which is validated not to ingress into the sample – nor lead to seal corruption.
To remove an individual crystal the seal may be peeled back or simply cut out with a scalpel. The material is very thin although still remaining as a perfect evaporation barrier and can be sliced with a knife very easily.
The seals are produced in a class 100,000 cleanroom environment and guaranteed to be dust and scratch-free.
Optical quality is of the highest level available. The seals are able to be used in the UV / Non-UVP range thus enabling the user to recognize salt – from protein crystals under the Ultra Violet light source microscope.
The Lipidic Cubic Phase Crystallisation (LCP) kit facilitates the automation and increased throughput of LCP crystallization set-ups. This novel system enables LCP screening to be performed accurately and with ease using manual or automated systems to complete the delivery of the solutions. Working with innovative scientists Professor Gebhard Schertler and Pat Edwards from the MRC Laboratory in Cambridge, Swissci AG developed a new system for setting up LCP screens.
The SWISSCI LCP kit ensures crystallography set-up is fast, cost-effective, and robotically adaptable. In addition, Ultra Violet light can be used with the glass / UVP polymers to visualize proteins without the light scattering associated with traditional polymeric solutions.
The LCP technique for crystallizing membrane proteins can be difficult and time-consuming to set up as it utilizes highly viscous lipid mesophases to reconstitute proteins. SWISSCI AG and MRC overcame these problems with the LCP kit. This product combines an easy to use sandwich system with dedicated coupling tapes and thin-film UVP cover plates. It conforms to ANSI/SLAS 1-2004-Standards and thus is perfect for modern automation applications where high throughput is required.
Ready to use, the plate fits laboratory robotics and uses a SWISSCI unique polymer to ensure UV stabilizations is not compromised by polarization. Easy sealing with dry tabbed adhesive tape exposure and thin UVP cover film. Included in the kit is a plate leveling device to ensure the cover perfectly adheres to the bottom LCP plate. No cross-contamination and ANSI/SLAS 1-2004-Standard. The Sandwich plate can be easily removed from the base plate when required – in-situ X-ray data collection and structure determination are then enabled. The product comprises a 700-micron thick UVP base plate with a 100 micron top pressure adhesive that has a yellow ready to remove the cover sheet and a separate 100-micron UVP cover film with protective dust cover. The kit is completed with a SWISSCI plate-leveling device. Maximum volume of drop 1.6 microlitres.
