Recombinant enzyme prepared from insect cells infected with baculovirus containing desired cDNAs

Rat CYP2C enzymes are the most abundant cytochromes P450 in untreated rat livers, in contrary to human livers where CYP3A enzymes are the most abundant cytochrome P450. Similar to other species, there are multiple CYP2C enzymes expressed in rat livers. However, unlike in human, CYP2C enzymes in rat demonstrate sex-specific expression. For example, CYP2C11 and CYP2C13 are expressed in the livers of males while CYP2C12 is expressed in females. CYP2C6 is not sex specific.

Rat CYP2C11 hydroxylates testosterone in the 2 and 16 positions, and is not reported to be inducible.
