Recombinant enzyme prepared from insect cells infected with baculovirus containing human FMO3 cDNAs
FMO3 is the major human hepatic FMO form. FMO3 can N- and S-oxidize several nucleophilic nitrogen- and sulfur-containing drugs and chemicals. For example: the stereoselective (S)-nicotine N-1′-oxygenation, cimetidine S-oxygenation, and the N-oxygenation of clozapine. Trimethylaminuria, a human disorder characterized by an impaired ability to convert malodorous trimethylamine to its odorless N-oxide, is most likely caused by a genetic polymorphism in the human FMO3 gene.
